Q.: |
Does Motorola support OMA SyncML DS over OBEX ? |
A.: |
Motorola software platforms: Qualcomm BREW, Microsoft Windows Mobile (ActiveSync), Symbian OS/UIQ, an own Linux and several own Motorola OSes. The latter two are discussed here. Symbian OS phones (like Z8 and Z10) use SyncML over m-Router.

Q.: |
How to start OMA DS over OBEX with a Motorola Linux ? |
A.: |
With a Motorola MING A1200, SyncML is not advertised in Bluetooth. Via the (buggy) USB CDC ACM interface, wait half a second and send ATE0+MSYNC to start the OMA DS 1.1 (WBXML) client. This command sequence, turns off AT command echo, because otherwise this Motorola echoes all OBEX packets. The phone answers with OK and an OBEX Connect request. With a Server Alerted Sync conforming to the OMA DS specification, the computer is the OBEX client and the SyncML server. In this case, the computer is the OBEX and SyncML server. Older Motorola Linux devices use SyncML version 1.0.

Q.: |
How to start OMA DS over OBEX with a Motorola K1, Z3 or L7e ? |
A.: |
Motorola K1/Z3/L7e/L9/W510 offer OMA DS 1.1 (WBXML) over OBEX. With Bluetooth you use the registered SyncML service or you start the OBEX server of the phone via AT+MODE=22 which works via USB CDC ACM, too. Consequently, the OBEX roles are not mixed up as within Motorola Linux. Older Motorola phones with the middle-key do not have OMA DS over OBEX, although AT+MODE=22 works for OBEX Push and File Transfer, for example: V525, V635, V220 and V3. Very old Motorola phones do not have OBEX at all. All use extended AT commands. It is unclear which other models support SyncML as V3xx, K3, V6 or V9 seem not to have SyncML over OBEX. Is it limited to GSM-only models? |
