Q.: |
What changed in Nokia Series 40 5th Edition ? |
A.: |
PBAP and OMA DS 1.2 (WBXML) were added even supporting SMS (text/v-Msg) and MMS (application/vnd.wap.mms-message) as data stores. However, there is no support for bookmarks and the email support died with Series 80. Instead of using the features for hierarchical data stores as in S60, EMI marks the belonging folder.

How to start OMA SyncML DS 1.2 over OBEX ? |
A.: |
5th Edition supports – besides 1.1 – version 1.2 requiring a new concept called Server Alerted Notification for starting the synchronisation: SAN. An unknown content type code pauses my Nokia for 20 seconds (bug 1) and SAN is rejected with an OBEX status of 0xC3 instead of ignoring unknown codes (bug 2) as all others do. text/v-Msg has no defined code: Until someone is able to tell its code, use version OMA DS 1.1 instead. The digest is ignored, so just send 16 arbitrary bytes instead.

Q.: |
Why should OMA SyncML DS 1.2 be used ? |
A.: |
I see no reason as all data stores are supported in 1.1, too.

Q.: |
Is it possible to start the SyncML session from the Nokia ? |
A.: |
Register a client on your computer as described there and then in the Nokia go to 5th: Menu » Settings » Sync and backup » Phone switch » Synchronise » Done. 3rd: Menu » Settings » Connectivity » Data transfer » Options » Add transfer contact » Phone synchronisation » Data to be synchronised » …
